New Zealanders enjoy some of the freshest, safest, and healthiest foods and beverages available in the world today. New Zealand is renowned for its production of high quality products and that’s why we are able to successfully export so much of it overseas.
The food and beverage industry in New Zealand plays a vital role in our society, providing not just sustenance for families, but also enjoyment, employment and economic growth.
The New Zealand Food and Grocery Council and its members absolutely understand that we have a role to play in the economic and social well-being of New Zealanders. That’s why we are committed to being strongly supportive of encouraging healthy lifestyles for New Zealand’s citizens and reducing harm in our communities caused by unhealthy choices.
Over the past few decades the food and beverage industry has thought deeply about what more can be done to improve the health of consumers. As such, many companies are working constantly on reformulation, portion control, and other initiatives to find new ways of delivering the healthier food choices.
Many of our members have joined forces with other companies or non-government organisations such as the Heart Foundation to work on specific initiatives to develop healthier products.
The results to date have been outstanding and have dramatically changed what’s on offer on the supermarket shelf today.
