Our plastic bottle caps are made of high-density polyethylene resin (HDPE) or type 2 plastic, a highly recyclable material. Our bottle caps are designed to be recycled and we want to ensure that all of our packaging that can be recycled, is recycled.  The beverage industry is working with government to develop a nationwide collection system for beverage containers, that is designed to create consistency and increase collection.

For now, it’s important to check the requirements in your area before you recycle any packaging, as different areas in NZ have different preferences about whether caps should be kept on the bottle or taken off before you recycle your bottles. For example, Auckland Council asks for caps to be kept on when recycling bottles.

Not only are we using more recycled plastic in our brands, in 2019 we invested in the first Coca-Cola TV ad in New Zealand solely focused on recycling. Instead, it shares the message about the importance of recycling. Our bottle caps are designed to be recycled and we want to ensure that all of our packaging that can be recycled, is recycled. It’s important to check the requirements in your area before you recycle any packaging, as different areas in NZ have different preferences about whether caps should be kept on or off.
